We have laughing!

So another big milestone. Both girls laughed for the first time within the same week. For N it was last week during the day. I was dangling a toy over her head and she let out the cutest little laugh. I thought surely I was hearing things as I did not expect that. I tried again and sure enough she laughed for a second time!

Last night while Papa was watching the girls, K laughed while looking at her sister. Now I know how S feels when he misses the girls during the day but all in all I thought it was fair of the girls to give each of us their first laughs.

I'll try and capture that on video when it starts happening more frequently. As of now, either girl has yet to laugh again but that doesn't keep S and I from making fools again as we try to get them to.

Here are some recent pictures:

Tummy time for the girls. They are getting better and better at holding their heads up for longer periods of time.

Just in case S is bored at work.....

...here are some pictures to pass the time.

N and K have actually been acknowledging each other lately. S and I will sit them facing each other and eventually they will lock eyes and take turns smiling at each other. I wasn't able to capture a smile this go around but they did have a pretty intense staring contest.

As I sit staring at our blog I'm left wondering...where is the aimless talking that is promised by the title? So here it goes.....I counted all my shirts hanging in the closet that have stains and do you know how many there are? Five...yes, FIVE. The worst part is two of them are maternity shirts I borrowed from a friend (Woosterweester, you're the lucky winner of a brand spankin' new white tank top and brown tank top my friend, :embarrassed:) so they must be replaced. The others I will eventually toss when I can actually fit into my old shirts. I don't know how many times one must spill salsa or eggs on oneself before they will learn to be more careful when they eat. I wish I could blame it all on the pregnancy because a woman's balance is off during that time but shamefully I believe most of those incidents have taken place more recently.

This has been your aimless talk for the day.

But since most of you check this blog to see pictures of the girls (S, get back to work!!) here you go:

Been MIA

Well, we were without a computer for a good week so I'm a little behind on the postings. The girls are doing WONDERFULLY!! They finally passed through their fussy stage and our days have settled into a more peaceful relaxing time (as long as they get those naps in!).

We went to the fair over the weekend with Uncle D and Aunt L. It's been fun to get out of the house with the girls. I know they won't remember any of these trips but S and I will. It feels good to have the confidence to take both girls out at the same time. Plus, the more we do it, the easier it gets.

The girls have consistently been sleeping about 10 hours a night for the last 5 nights. I can't tell you how good a long stretch of sleep like that feels!

Here are some recent pictures during our MIA time.

More pictures

Here are some more pictures. The girls are growing SO fast. The smiles come a little more often and a little easier. We've heard the beginnings of cooing from both girls. They're definitely developing their own little personalities and it's been fun getting to know them. Enjoy the most recent pictures!

Not to be outdone by her little sis....

Okay, I PROMISE no more poo pics after this. But if I embarrass one baby then it's only fair to embarrass the other.

Fresh Air

Last Saturday Uncle D and Aunt L watched the girls so that S and I could go to a wedding. It was wonderful! It was the first time that we'd been able to get out of the house together without the girls (aside from a quick coffee/old navy run). It felt good to dress up and head downtown (OUR CITY!!) together. A HUGE thank you to D&L for their willingness to take on both girls for the day!

Here are a few pictures from today. It's been beautiful out lately so I've been trying to get the girls outside more often to show them that there actually is life outside of the living room. You can see a couple of smiles (well...almost smiles) in there. They've been practicing their smiles more and more and it won't be long until they are able to smile at you at the drop of a hat.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have smiles!!!!! And all along I thought I'd be able to capture N smiling first.

All in a days work....

I've come to realize that sometimes motherhood is really NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!

We had a bit of a hard afternoon yesterday...K was diagnosed with mild reflux last week and until the medication kicks in, she is in a little bit of pain. It's hard to see your baby hurting and not be able to do anything about it. In cases like that you can either laugh or cry with her.....or in my case, take a few pictures to document it. In one of the pictures, you'll see K in a brief moment of calmness looking over her shoulder at N in the background who is letting it be known that she is DONE sitting in the bouncy chair. One set of arms....two babies....what's a mommy to do...?

And then today......well, let me just say that I know officially hate (yes, the feelings are that strong) Target store brand diapers. This is probably the 9th or 10th explosion we've had in the past 3 days. Who knows...maybe I just need to go up a size as the girls are getting close to that 10lb mark. At their last dr appointment K weighed 8.10 and N weighed 9.10. But back to the issue at hand:

N looking all sweet and angelic...but wait...what's that little wet spot on the right hand bottom side of N's onsie? Could it be spit up? Or could it be.....something else? Dun dun duuuunnn....
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Uh Oh!!! Mommy hunts for the scissors after deciding that drastic measures need to be taken. Trying to take this onsie off the traditional route would certainly mean bathtime for one little girl and mommy decides that that is just too much work for her this morning. This onsie has offically taken one for the team....thanks for all your hard work onsie!

Ugh....you may have won this time Target brand diaper...but I'll get you NEXT TIME...mwah ha ha ha....

The Kindness of a Stranger

I meant to post this the other day...but as always, I'm a few days behind. :-)

I was at Winco with the girls last week. I needed to pick up a few things for dinner that night. While I was there I decided to just do a big grocery trip. So I was pushing the cadillac of a double stroller (I should take a picture so you can see the ridiculousness of it) and pulling a cart. The first item on my list was chips so I headed to the chip aisle. So...yeah...that was where I basically scrapped that plan, decided to just get what I needed for dinner and then come back later without the girls. I'm sure I looked like a freight train trying to navigate my way through Winco.

Well, to make a long story even more long, a woman with her 10 month old son Austin stopped me in the aisle and we chatted for a bit. Later as I was checking out she came over and offered to help me out to the car. It was such a sweet gesture and I really did need the help. It made me wonder when the last time it was that I'd helped out a complete stranger like that. Really it was such a small gesture in the grand scheme of things but it will always stand out in my mind because things like that don't happen in our every day lives that often. Hopefully it made me more aware of helping out others when it is obviously needed. I want my girls to grow up being givers and helpers to others. I want them to be aware of how blessed they are in life and to not take it for granted. Children learn by watching their parents so it is my hope that S and I can be that example to our girls.

Here are some unrelated pictures also from last week. I can't believe how big they are getting. They are really filling out. N has been smiling more and more. It's still only occasionally and you can't really predict when but I do see her giving a full blown responsive smile in the next few weeks.

Feeding K

K makes the sweetest gestures when she is being fed. I'm not sure what she was thinking or how she was able to hold her arm up during her whole feeding yesterday but somehow she was. I don't think she was even really awake the whole time. Enjoy the pics!
